Whispers of Exclusion

One evening, I observed the scene from my elevated two-storey terrace as an esteemed family bid farewell to a group of Brahmin pundits. The atmosphere suggested a significant puja had taken place, evident by the presence of five pundits.,Among who was a seven-eight year old boy. The poignant moment unfolded as the family elders, along with everyone else, bid farewell by respectfully touching the child's feet.

In my customary routine, I strolled through the park nestled within the campus. To my surprise, the same young pundit from the earlier ceremony was engrossed in play at the park's gaming station. Our eyes met, and he enthusiastically shared that he resides adjacent to the temple and has a fondness for this particular park. With a smile, he expressed his intention to make daily visits for play. After enjoying his time for about half an hour, he departed.

Two days later, as I sat on a bench after another park excursion, the pundit child was notably absent. At that moment, my wife joined me, wearing a somewhat sombre expression. Upon inquiry, she disclosed that the watchman had barred the child  from accessing the park, citing that he did not reside in our apartment complex.

While it might seem like a minor incident, it struck a chord. Another layer had been added to the complex tapestry of that boy's life. Reflecting on the incident, I couldn't help but ponder that one day, the same child might navigate society based on the experiences shaping his worldview.
